I have been living at home for more than a month. I am not going anywhere. In this apartment, I live with two of my friends, who are also from Indonesia. But right now, there are only two of us living together in the apartment. Our other roommate is in another state since spring break and now can't go back to Auburn because of this pandemic. For the sake of our life, my roommate and I have stocked food. Our beloved rice, noodles, pasta, bread, potatoes, flour, sugar, salt, coffee, tea, onion, spices, fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, juices, milk, snacks, and others. Our fridge and cupboard are filled with enough food for us to survive in this apartment.
Meanwhile, in this city of Auburn, although not as busy as other cities in the United States, but these days are so quiet. Almost everyone is active from home. Educational Activities; teaching and learning, and all work is done from home. Toilet paper, disinfectant liquid, hand sanitizer, and handwashing soap are so trending in all shops and supermarkets. The topic of conversation every time someone answers the phone is always decorated with COVID-19. Even in my writing right now, Corona Virus has to be there. It is undeniable that the atmosphere today is not as comfortable as usual, but despite all that, I still survive and be fine. I am doing a lot of campus projects, reading books, watching movies, enjoying my kitchen activities, making phone calls here and there, and try to not having a cold. I still survive!
This semester I am studying "Technology and Media in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)" courses. The course then transformed me into a person who dared to explore applications, games, websites, and online media and enriched me with technologies that I had never used before. Since the beginning of this class, I confessed to the Professor and my friends that I am a non-native technology person. However, I have the intention to change, friends. The plan to get many new things from this class and share them later when I return to Indonesia. So I still survived despite the ups and downs.
The Professor who teaches me is a cool woman—Dr. Harrison. That is how we call her. From the first time I saw her, I always remembered J.K Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books. Once she arrived in class wearing a T-shirt with the words "The Leaky Cauldron" - the name of a bar and inn, which also functions as an entrance that connects the Muggle community and the wizarding community, in the Harry Potter novel - and she made me can't stop smiling during the lecture. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I almost always amazed by my Professor's fashion style. Casual and cool. I also like the way she teaches and interacts with students. She is a very friendly woman. Dr. Harrison's classes are always fun but disciplined. Like this time. You might think that I'm writing a story or a blog as usual, but it's not. The fact is this writing, and later the next two writings are part of my assignments from the "Technology and media for ESOL" class.
So, Dear Dr. Harrison and my awesome classmates, through my post this time, I want to introduce the Zoom application to my friends in Indonesia, especially specifically in Papua.
Some friends of mine are curious about how I am currently learning from home. What kind of application that I use during my online class. So, guys, the answer is Zoom. I attend each of my classes using the Zoom application. If you already know this application, just stop here, do not continue reading, but do not go anywhere. #stayathome. Anyway, Zoom is a communication application using video. The app can be used on a variety of mobile devices, desktops, to telephones and space systems. I have long known this application, but not as often as I currently use it. So, by using this app we can conduct meetings with video and audio conferences. This application is a product from the United States. It founded in 2011.
This application also has advanced features such as Video and Audio with high definition quality or what we are familiar with HD. Also, Zoom accommodates participants up to 1000 people and 49 videos on the screen. Through this application, users can also share screens to collaborate and write notes for each meeting interactively. Teachers and students use the share screen option when presenting their material or project. Regarding security, the zoom is supported with end-to-end encryption for all meetings that have been scheduled through this application. The user's password and privacy protection are also safe with this app. Next, users can also record the proceedings of meetings and store them in their respective devices, including the chat transcript that takes place during a session.
To use this application, you can use your laptop or mobile phone. I prefer to use a computer because of the wider screen. You can download the Zoom application on iOS and Android devices with the name Zoom Cloud Meetings. Each meeting created with the Zoom application will have a unique 9, 10, or 11 digit number called the meeting ID. Users and participants of the conference will be asked to enter it to join the Zoom meeting. If you participate by telephone, you need the teleconference number provided in the invitation. Now, let's make sure your internet connection is stable, and start your meeting.
Well, friends, this is a glimpse of a story about me and the zoom application that I currently use frequently. Stay at home, friends. Take care of your health, keep up the spirits, and don't forget to wash your hands.
